How full is your bucket?

How full is your bucket? It is a good question and even a better book.
I am reading "How Full Is Your Bucket?" (Tom Rath and Donald O. Clifton PH.D). It is a great about how interactions with others can be positive or negative. Do people we interact with (co-workers, family, friends, people at the check out stand...) fill out "buckets" with positive things (happiness, joy, laughter, encouragement...) or do they steal from our buckets (make us feel sad, angry,
depressed...). How do we fill others buckets (or do we)? Are we the type of people who fill buckets or do we take from them? I know there was a time in my life when I was a bucket thief *gasp*!! I was always taking! And i also went through a stage where I was surrounded by those who would take from my bucket (yes, that could be the reason why I was taking from others buckets...to fill my own). Currently I am trying to focus on filling the buckets of those I interact with (notice I say try...because it is a very hard task to stay focused on!).
There are some wonderful stories and insight in this book. If you are a leader or someone who wants to learn why it is so important to fill buckets instead of take from them please read this book! Here are a few words from it that i enjoyed...

"These recent studies show that negative emotions can be harmful to your health and might even shorten your life span. We already know that one negative person can ruin an entire workplace, but negative emotions can also destroy relationships, families and entire careers.

In contrast, recent discoveries suggest that positive emotions are an essential requirement for survival. Not only do they improve your physical and mental health, but they also provide a buffer against depression and illness."

I really want to strive to be someone who fills other buckets with positive things. I want to be someone others WANT to be around and feel good when they walk away from out interaction. That is one thing I want to be remembered as...a bucket filler!!!

My hunny bunny and i watched "Facing the Giants" yesterday (my oldest was at a Panic at the Disco concert and my baby was with her Grandparents so we had the house to ourselves). I know...we decided to watch a movie....(could it be age....teeehehehe). Well, I think we made a great decision because the movie was incredible. I cried and cried through the whole movie...but it was sooooo good! I would recommend it to everyone. It is about a high school coach who is struggling with a loosing team and personal things in his life. It is about seeing God work and bless! It is about seeing God do the impossible!!! Ohhh...i have to go out and by this movie...it is that good! I would say more but I don't want to ruin it (trust me and see it!!). The one thing I took from the movie (besides a bunch of wet Kleenex....eeeewwwww!) is that GOD can do ANYTHING and NOTHING is impossible!!!! What a blessing!

i love learning!!

i have been in a leadership training course for the last two days and we finish tomorrow! i am always reminded when i go to any trainings how much i love to learn! i think knowledge is wonderful and so empowering! i wish i could spend more time learning and taking courses! however...time gets in the way. i do look forward to the days when i can get back into school full time and bask in all the knowledge that floats around campus!
i am excited to take the things i am learning this week and use them on my team and in my daily work interactions. i was so motivated that i stopped at Barnes on the way home to look at their books! i bought a few and can't wait to get started on reading them! there are a few things i will be working on right away and i will be spending some time this weekend "polishing" them up. i have even started thinking about something that i might want to present to my manager to help moral!
wow!! it's amazing what a little time away from work can do for someone (especially if they are with peers who are as excited and motivated as yourself!). I am really going to focus on keeping this attitude going forward!!! =0)
